'Mirror Politics': DC is the God-King of Junk Fees

DC’s denizens have demonstrated time and again that they are masters of loudly accusing others - of that which they are actually doing.

The Democrats are exquisite experts of it.

Party of Projection: Democrat Accusations Expose Hypocrisy

Democrats Always Guilty of What They Accuse

Why Democrats Accuse Us of What They Do:

“The reality, however, seems to be much more sinister.

“It’s a tactic.

“This tactic is called ‘mirror politics,’ or ‘accusation in a mirror.’

“‘Accuse your enemy of what you are doing, as you are doing it to create confusion.’

“The above quote has been attributed to both Karl Marx and Saul Alinsky.

“Whether one, the other, or both said it ultimately isn’t all that important. Nearly everyone on the left today is a disciple and intellectual descendant of both….

“This tactic was also admired by Joseph Goebbels, chief propagandist for the Nazi party:

“‘The cleverest trick used in propaganda against Germany during the war was to accuse Germany of what our enemies themselves were doing…’ (from his speech to the 1934 Nuremberg Rally).

“Mirror politics has been characterized as a ‘genocidal speech technique.’”

Their practice of mirror politics is SO infuriating - in part because it is so antithetical to reality.  And in part because it is SO effective.

Sinister harmonic convergence occurs?

When Democrats - the Party of ever-expanding government - accuse others of doing what the government is doing.

So as to obfuscate how much huger government is perpetually getting.

We recently saw the launch of a new messaging tentacle by these horrible people.

All at once, “junk fees” were omnipresent in their propaganda.

Here are some headlines - from just the last week or so.

Despite Crackdown on Junk Fees, This Banking Surcharge Just Hit a Record High

Now please do not misconstrue this to be my defending stupid private sector fees.

The Big Banks are ESPECIALLY egregious with them.  I just fired exceedingly awful Wells Fargo - in no small part because they were charging me FIFTY-THREE DOLLARS AND CHANGE every time I pulled money (a max $1,500) from a Belizean bank.

But the Lord of All Junk Fees?  Is, of course, government.

Taxes - are fees.  Government fees - are fees.  And there are a LOT of all of them.

List of 100 Taxes and Fees You Pay to the Government

I’m sure there are way more than just 100.

For our purposes, we’ll extract from this list just the federal:

“Federal income tax; Employee social security tax (your employer pays the other half); Employee Medicare tax (your employer pays the other half); TV Cable/Satellite fees & taxes; Federal telephone surtax, excise tax, and universal surcharge; Federal gasoline tax; Federal inheritance tax; Gift tax; Court case filing fee; Retirement account early withdrawal penalty; Air transportation tax; Electronic transmission of tax return fees; Passport application/renewal fee; Luxury & gas-guzzler car taxes; Kiddie tax (IRS form 8615); Fuel gross receipts tax; Waste Management tax; Oil and gas assessment tax; Use taxes (on out-of-state purchase); IRA rollover tax/withdrawal penalties; Tax on non-qualified health saving account distributions; Individual and small business surtax (page 336 of Obamacare); Estimated income tax underpayment penalty; Alternative Minimum Tax on income….”

And that’s just on you individually.  On businesses?:

“Federal corporate income tax; Tax registration fee for new businesses; Employer social security tax; Employer Medicare tax; Federal unemployment tax; Business registration renewal tax; Worker's compensation tax; Tax on imported/exported goods; Oil storage/inspection fees; Employer health insurance mandate tax; Excise Tax on Charitable Hospitals (page 2001/Sec. 9007 of Obamacare); Tax on Innovator Drug Companies (Page 2010/Sec. 9008 of Obamacare); Tax on Medical Device Manufacturers (Page 2020/Sec. 9009 of Obamacare); Tax on Health Insurers (Page 2026/Sec. 9010 of Obamacare); Excise Tax on Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans, i.e. ‘Cadillac’ plans; Tax on indoor tanning services; Utility users tax; Biodiesel fuel tax; FDIC tax (insurance premium on bank deposits); Estimated income tax underpayment penalty; Bank ATM transaction tax; Occupation taxes and fees (annual charges required for a host of professions)….”

Please note:

I excerpted only the ones I knew to be imposed by the federal government.  There were many more of which I wasn’t sure if The Feds imposed them - so I excluded them.  I’m sure some of those excluded - shouldn’t have been.

Also: Many of the federal government impositions listed - are also imposed by many state and local governments.

Junk fees galore.  Courtesy of a federal government - currently pretending to be on the hunt for junk fees.

Physicians - heal thy selves.

Perhaps the quintessential federal government junk fee?  The Universal Service Fund (USF).

It is a TITANIC tax - levied upon our phones.  It steals from us - almost $9 billion per year.

You need a TITANIC tax rate to get to $9 billion - and the USF has one.  In Q3 of 2023 - it is 29.2%.

And it goes up every quarter - automatically.

And it can also go up - anytime a majority of the five unelected Federal Communications Commission (FCC) bureaucrat Commissioners votes to raise it.

The purpose of the Universal Service Fund - is to ensure universal service.  Today - that means Internet service.  Except....

DC Wasting 100s of Billions - On Already-100% Internet-Connected America:

“One slight little hiccup:

“Every American has been connected to ‘reliable, affordable high-speed Internet’ - since at least the Barack Obama Administration.”

There is no fee more junked up - than a massive government tax.

Imposed to do something - we already did a decade ago.

“Junk fees?”
