Eric Holder Decides Roman Catholic Priests Do Not “Contribute to the Morale and Well-Being” of Military Members – 50 DOD Contract Priests Find Their Communion Sets Locked-up

After consulting with Eric Holder and DOJ lawyers, Defense Secretary, Chuck Hagel, decided, “Civilian Catholic priests, working under contract as chaplains, did not, among other things, ‘contribute to the morale and well-being’ of military personnel, reports CNS News.

As of the time of this report, 50 furloughed Roman Catholic priests are forbidden under penalty of arrest, from preaching, praying for DOD congregants, and using military property or facilities.

The priests are also barred from accessing their offices to retrieve personal property.

For the record, contracted secular “family support and mental health” workers are still on the job.

Father Ray Leonard, Senior Catholic Chaplain for Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, GA, is fighting this persecution in court!

Joined by several other priests, Father Leonard has filed a federal lawsuit against the Obama Administration for violating the First Amendment by impeding Catholics’ free expression of speech and religion.

According to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese for Military Services, more than 25 percent of the military community practices Roman Catholic Christianity.

Yet, Roman Catholic Chaplains only comprise eight percent of the chaplaincy!  By persecuting these contract priests, the Obama Administration is ensuring that this underserved community becomes even more underserved during the shutdown!

The Obama Administration has caused 14 days of cancelled weddings, Bible Studies, daily/weekly mass, Communion, Confession, and the administration of various Sacraments.

The Justice Department also says the “Anti-Deficiency Act” forbids the priests from volunteering their services without federal pay and is threatening to arrest them if they minister anyway!

So far, according to Father Leonard, the persecution is limited to Catholics.  Protestant services are ongoing at the base chapels and Protestant pastors and priests have not yet been threatened.

If you want to send a clear message to military leaders that says STOP HELPING OBAMA DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ROMAN CATHOLICS, check out this link.

Obama is NOT a Christian. His anti-Christian policies and diktats have harmed Christians in and out of the U.S. military while he pushes deviancy on every level.

    • Rick Misleh

I agree with you, but “diktats” is spelled “dictates.”

  • Dingus

Obama is surely showing his hand. I am not a RC christian but it is just the first stages of attack on the religion. It is a “Lets see how this turns out” situation and needs to be nipped in the bud. The man needs to be removed from office asap but so far no one is willing to do it. Petitions have been signed and sent, there has been a lot of lawyers doing the same but it is all being ignored and brushed off as “fanatics from the opposition”.

    • NmyWake

True. Perhaps it’s in retaliation for the Catholic Dioceses filing federal lawsuits on behalf of dioceses, schools and health care agencies that argue the requirements in Ocrumacare violates their religious freedoms.

      • Dingus

that is probably the answer right there. ^5

  • Gertrud Borchardt

Scumbag administration! Why isn’t there a popular uprising. This is beyond vile!

    • lcuvillier

What have you been doing to help get rid of this piece of trash out of the WH and the rest of his regime? Have you wrote your reps? Have you visited your rep’s offices? Have you called them? It takes more than complaining on a blog…they need to hear from all of us loud and clear.

      • Dingus

It will take more than that I am afraid. I have burned up my key board and cell phone making calls and sending emails and everything else I can do. I started petitions but people are so afraid of associating with rabblerousers that they shy away from participating.

  • kathylebron

Eric who??? I contest that Mr. Holder does not contribute to the morale and well being of our military personnel on any level.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1061058761 Leslie Linder Luthe

He does not contribute to anyone’s morale or well being,
      as a matter of fact!!!

      • Suzanne Graf Slupesky Beck

        He;s a freaking idiot.

  • Sisse

I do hope this text is being distributed wide and far, especially to as many high ranking military personnel as possible…

    Every
day I read how you all, Good Americans, debate on democrats ,
republicans, and what have you.( Maybe ) It is time to look at a
totally different view ; Muslims do not care the least about democrats
and republicans – they care for what they think will benefit islam.
Muslims are, according to the koran, allowed to lie, as much they like,
in order to obtain the goals of islam …

    • gregz

Murder also. “It’s in the book!”

    • kiwifruit

You are exactly correct! It’s called Taqiyya. When it comes to us Infidels, anything goes.

  • teacher

From an Independent Methodist minister’s point of review — This is a clear violation of the First Amendment rights of not only the Roman Catholic priests but of the military and dependent Roman Catholics. Next they will do what we all fear and that is the ouster of all chaplains (except Islamic) from the military. Good luck in your law suites my brothers in Christ.

    • Joe Calandra

I’m right there with you as an Anglican. This is an attack on all of us. The Protestant services may have been left in place simply to attempt to cause enmity between people who worship Jesus. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Catholic Christians and Protestants need to remember we worship, love, and serve the same Risen Christ and together, we must oppose threats to our religious liberty.

      • Allison

Yes. As a Latter-day Saint I stand with you. Our spiritual life is not separate from our physical life. We need to be able to keep our covenants, and that requires access to the Sacrament. What can we do besides speak out? Somehow we must get organized and protest what’s happening to these valiant Catholics.

        • Joe Calandra

There is a link at the bottom of the page to a petition we are running that will be hand delivered to DOD commanders. Please feel free to sign it and ask your friends and congregants to also sign and pray and stay engaged. I’m a vet and I can’t imagine this happening in the military I love. It is simply a disgrace. It’s like the commanders don’t know what is or isn’t an illegal order anymore. The UCMJ binds them not to follow illegal orders.

      • Mymomchoselife

The reason that they haven’t gone after the Protestants is that satan wants to destroy the true Church of God the one that Christ himself started. The Church that has the fullness of Christ in it, especially the Eucharist which is the body and blood soul and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • gregz

I knew that Upchuck Hagel would be a good puppet for the “Clown Administration.”

  • kiwifruit

I hope the Catholic Bishops are pleased. They supported Obama in both elections in spite of all the facts-Obama supports abortion, is anti-religion (except Islam!) and to show his gratitude Obama has done nothing but stick it to the Catholics. Personally, the Catholic leadership makes me puke, we can thank them for all this disgraceful treatment.

  • justapatriot

This is an atrocity. I believe in freedom of religion. I believe that access to the faith of your choice is guaranteed by the first amendment. I am not a catholic, but if we allow this, perhaps my religion is next. I choose to fight this.

It’s Catholic with a capital C. Thank you!

      • DP1221

Take your trolling somewhere else. It is counterproductive and rude.

        • Mymomchoselife

Last time I looked I was responding to justapatriot. Defending the one true Church of Christ is not rude nor is it counterproductive but your comment is.

          • justapatriot

What a shame you couldn’t comment on the sentiment rather than the small typo.

          • Mymomchoselife

Maybe to you it is a small typo but to me it is an assault on Catholicism. Even though it may appear subtle I know why someone who is not a Catholic would use a small c.

          • justapatriot

            I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I was dealing with a perfect person.

          • Mymomchoselife

Sorry to disappoint but NO ONE is perfect.

          • justapatriot

You are part of the problem. Basically we are on the same side, but you choose to attack those who make minor mistakes because they don’t live up to your expectations of perfection. You exemplify what is going on in the Republican party right now. As DP1221 said, take your trolling elsewhere as you are counterproductive.

          • Mymomchoselife

I am neither a democrat or a republican I do not play into
the faux two party system. I am NOT a troll, if you did not agree with what I said about the small c for Catholic and it was not your intent to offend Catholics then perhaps you could have easily said that you meant no offence by it. YOU are counterproductive.

          • justapatriot

As I said, you are part of the problem.

  • Sandra T. Shelton

This is outrageous. Holder should have been fired for Fast and Furious. It seems as if he is trying his best to do away with any type of religious freedom. Hope these people who voted for the Obummer are satisfied.

  • jazzgirl205

As a Catholic, I think the priests should minister anyway and get arrested. This would bring attention to this atrocity and be a great exercise in civil disobedience.

    • TommyG

Agreed. I don’t see Paul, Peter or any of the first century Christians stopping because of threat of arrest or worse.

I guess if they lied and said they were MUSLIM they would all be open again…. I HATE this President and his little Czars!

  • Susan Mack

    • Gina101

Oh, he knows the Constitution. He just hates it and ignores it. Media on his side, he can get away with it.

Time for the priests to get together and do a major exorcism. It is now appropriate.

Where are the Catholic Bishops and Cardinals? Another bunch of weak backed followers who fail to stand up for their priests and ‘flocks’. To hell with Holder, Hagel and O’Bama. Say mass in an open field on a voluntary basis. Good Lord what is becoming of this country. If I were a priest I would dare them to arrest me…..then the sparks would fly. This act shows the real thinking of this administration.

    • Marie Noybn

I have a friend whos a catholic living on base, and thats what her priest is doing, i imagine many more are but the msm just doesnt want anyone to know about it.

  • tony1948

Give the Democrats what ever they want. Coming this Election, let just vote both Senate and Republicans out. Lets put officials that values our Liberty, Freedom and respect our constitutional rights. Once in, have the Senate vote to impeach Obama out office and let congress completely defund Obama care.

They are not persecuting priests. They are applying government shutdown rules on contractors. No work can be performed, because it would create an implied liability and they can not be paid. This has to do with following the law. I found a more balanced report on this.

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/10/04/do-catholic-priests-in-the-military-risk-being-arrested-if-they-minister-and-hold-mass-during-the-govt-shutdown/

    • Mymomchoselife

Oh that’s right, preventing a Catholic Priest from celebrating THE MASS whether or NOT they are contracted out or not is not persecution. Just keep walking nothing to see hear.

      • RAB

They will be celebrating mass on Sunday, so I do not know what point you are trying to make.

        • Mymomchoselife

In case you missed the point (which is pretty obvious) Guest stated that Priests were NOT being persecuted. That was what I was responding to!

  • Andy McWilliams

Holder and Obama are he anti Christ. No doubt!

  • Andy McWilliams

Wouldn’t Chuck Hagel be over that? Not much better.

  • Chuck Robey

I am not a Catholic and I believe that Catholics are a major Cult as is Mormonism but I do and will always fight for a persons right to practice free religion I am a Protestant myself and I follow the bible which is why I feel and believe what I said above. Just remember Holder and Obama will get theirs be it in this life or the next I am hoping for both but all we can trust is that GOD will punish them in his way and time..

    • Mymomchoselife

Unfortunately Chuck you are dead wrong. How far back can you trace your church? Did I hear you say to the 1500′s? Gee wiz what Church was around since Christ? Could it have been the Catholic Church? I know that isn’t a convenient answer for protestants because it is easier to attack the true Church no different than Obama and his ilk. Oh yeah and what is it the PROtestants are Protesting about? BTW where in Bible does it say bible only (sola sciptura)? I am awaiting eagerly for your answer, just give me a verse and chapter. Thanks.

      • http://live.xbox.com/en-US/MyXbox/Profile?gamerTag=FinderKeeper FinderKeeper

The Eastern Orthodox Churches have been around since the time of Christ as well. The dispute between those churches and the Roman Catholic Church dates back to the 11th century, but neither holds the upper hand in being considered as “around since the beginning”.

And of course, Jesus Christ was a Jew, and observed Jewish holidays. Christianity, as separate from Judaism, effectively began with his death, not with his birth.

        • Mymomchoselife

The Eastern Orthodox Churches are Catholic. They are part of the Catholic Church. They were part of the one true Church from the beginning until the split, just like the PROtestants split. Christianity is the fulfillment of Judiasim. Finder, are you Catholic?

        • Nordog6561

“…effectively began with his resurrection, and then Pentacost, not his birth or his death.”

          FIFY

          • Nordog6561

Actually, even that is wrong. I would say Christianity effectively began with the Annunciation. Mary was the first Christian, then Joseph, then Elizabeth and the unborn John the Baptist.

      • TheSlot1942

Listen, all believers are Christians. The reason for this massive squabble is doctrine and ceremony that is all. You like to kneel, I like to stand. You commune periodically, I commune every Sunday. etc. etc. Knock off the pretentiousness, you are no better than a Quaker and a Pentacostal is no better than a Catholic… you get the point. Standing on your holier-than-thou soapbox is the reason the Protestant reformation began in the first place. Get over yourself and get back to God…. not your precious doctrines.

        • Mymomchoselife

It’s not about merely kneeling or standing. It is also not about holier than thou, it is about the TRUTH. Sorry if you find that offensive.

          • TheSlot1942

So in essence, you are telling me that doctrinal protocols are what makes up the REAL TRUTH? If I don’t partake of the Eucharist or don’t go to confession I’m not privy to the TRUTH?

            LoLz

And you wonder why Martin Luther was ready to go postal?

          • Mymomchoselife

What I am saying is that the Catholic Church offers the FULLNESS of truth. Martin Luther did not want to start a new religion, he did not like the corruption inside the Church. He was very upset about the sale of indulgences and I don’t blame him one bit for that.

          • TheSlot1942

Listen, I think we are sniping at each other even though we are on the same side. This is a divisive issue that has been festering SINCE Luther posted his 95 thesis. I fully support Catholicism if it can make someone become a better person. I believe any leaning or denomination can do that. It is what’s in a person’s heart that matters and I strongly believe God care’s not for pomp and circumstance. Yes, it does get under my skin when a Catholic peers down his nose at me just because I may have grown up in the Protestant influence. However, maybe this is what is actually separating all believers to the point we cannot come to God on understandable terms; we are too busy critiquing one another over how much each may tithe or how many times you may repeat a Hail Mary. Brother/Sister… whomever you are, I think it is high time we put this pettiness behind us and recognize each other for what we really are…. brothers and sisters in Christ.

  • TimboT

Eric Holder is another Obama sycophant – can you NOT see that dark brown stain on the end of his nose?

  • corey

If people can’t see what this administration is really all about, then they all deserve what-ever they get…

  • Patrick Fogerty

    Is this NAZI Germany!!

  • amabokcuf

When can we start the 2nd American Revolution???

  • eponymous1

I really dislike the sniping between the Christian sects here. Right now, there is one enemy, militant secularism, and it is targeting us all, if you haven’t noticed. They are removing “God” from the Air Force Oath, locking out Priests, and targeting evangelicals as “hate groups” and saying that people cannot contribute to them.

We can disagree about how we follow the bible, or even how we follow God in general, but the first amendment guarantees that we MAY worship how we choose, and this regime is rapidly destroying our Constitutional rights.

We MUST unite against these attacks on people of faith NOW.

  • Ken Pangborn

    It figures with this administration.

  • diversity

I think you should also provide imams and pastors, rabbis and priests

  • RobTresun

I’m not even religious & this makes me freaking livid!! How dare these self-righteous scum tell any religious groups that they aren’t aloud to practice their faith on government bases. Let alone have the gall to single one group out of the many. I can only hope that these Roman Catholic priests go all the way & sue everybody involved back into the ice age!!
