Senate Republican Committee Assignments For The 113th Congress

-By Warner Todd Huston

This might be something of interest to your activism for the 113th Congress. Here are all the GOP Senate Committee assignments for your knowledge. You may need some of this info as you search out what Republicans to go to on the various issues that arise in the new session of Congress. It is useful to know what senatora are on what committees.

Some of the freshman Republican senators have gotten some “plum committees,” according to the office of Mitch McConnell.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a former state solicitor general and one of only three Hispanic Americans in the chamber, landed on the Judiciary Committee, which will have oversight of any immigration reform bills and potential nominations for the Supreme Court.

The tea-party favorite also won spots on the Armed Services, Commerce, Aging and Rules committees.

Nebraska Sen. Deb. Fischer, a former state lawmaker who succeeded Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson, was named to the Armed Services, Commerce and Small Business panels.

Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, who is expected to play a role in the immigration debate as he did in the House, will join Cruz on the Judiciary Committee. Flake will also serve on the Foreign Relations and Energy committees.

Meanwhile, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), who was appointed to replace outgoing Sen. Jim DeMint, won four slots: Commerce, Energy, Aging, and the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions panels.

Other notable moves: Two senators who served on the 2011 deficit supercommittee, Rob Portman of Ohio and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, will join the powerful Finance Committee. Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia is also a new addition. The panel oversees such issues as taxes and health care.

And tea party Sen. Rand Paul, who frequently holds up Senate business over his opposition to U.S. foreign aid, will join the Foreign Relations Committee. That panel has investigated the deadly Benghazi attack and will soon hold hearings to confirm Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) as secretary of state.

The Senate Comm Center also passes on to me the committee assignments for the upcoming session. This just for your information.

How about putting the list into Excel spreadsheet form and adding the e-mail addresses? THAT would be helpful.
