Either because of federal government intrusions, or because of economic and national debt concerns, States have been taking measures to protect their citizens and their Constitutional rights. This past week Texas took action against the federal government by barring abortion providers from Medicaid. (See TEXAS Here)

We heard yesterday about the State of Wyoming via House Bill 85, creating a state-run government “continuity task force to prepare for the possibility of disruptions in energy and food to a total breakdown of the federal government.”

Jeremy Pelzer of the Wyoming Star Tribune reported that State Representative David Miller of Riverton introduced a “doomsday bill.” Via “Business Insider: “

“If America’s economic and social problems continue to escalate and spiral out of control, Miller said, Wyoming needs to be ready. So, he’s introduced legislation to create a state-run government continuity task force, which would study and prepare Wyoming for potential catastrophes, from disruptions in food and energy supplies to a complete meltdown of the federal government.  It would even look at the feasibility of quickly providing an alternative currency in Wyoming should the U.S. dollar collapse entirely.”

While on the surface the study sounds like a logical progression of  matters in light of national economic and social circumstances, there a few items that might catch your eye with regard to this measure:

“With the national debt at more than $15 trillion and the protests springing up around the country Miller isn’t feeling confident in the U.S.’s future…He wants Wyoming to look into its own alternate currency, its own draft, what it would take for the state to raise an army, and how they might acquire an aircraft carrier and fighter jets…”

I couldn’t help but notice that Wyoming is land-locked and has no access to the sea, nor ports… so, an Air Craft Carrier?

Yes well, in today’s follow up we find out from reporter Pelzer that the measure has been passed by the Wyoming House, with a few modifications:

“Before passing House Bill 85 by a voice vote on second reading, lawmakers struck out language directing the task force to study Wyoming instituting its own military draft, raising a standing army, and acquiring strike aircraft and an aircraft carrier…HB85 must now pass a final House vote before heading over to the Senate for consideration.”

Thank goodness for sensible minds.

Leave it to government to come up with “the draft, fighter jets, and an aircraft carrier,” eh?
