Today Marks 1,000 Days Without a Budget

You might have noticed a catchy video hanging around our homepage in the new video section. The video was put out by the GOP and hits hard on the fact that today marks 1,000 days without a budget. It’s a great video done in the style of a Hollywood movie promo.

It’s a bit surprising the Republicans haven’t hit harder on this going into an election year. Republicans need to create a strong contrast between their agenda and that of Democrats, and the fact that Democrats are solely responsible for a lack of budget is telling on many fronts.

Paul Ryan gets it. This is taken from a statement he pushed out on the matter.

Senate Democrats abandoned their official duty to prioritize Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars and tackle our nation’s most pressing economic challenges—dealing a painful blow to fiscal progress that may be felt for some time.

This contrasts sharply with the record of the House Republicans. Last spring, the new House Majority publicly produced a budget plan before the nation, brought it forward in committee, and passed it on the floor. The budget’s principled solutions honestly confront our nation’s most difficult challenges, putting the budget on a path to balance and the country on a path to prosperity.

The president and his party’s leaders have yet to detail a credible budget plan to prevent the fiscal crisis that awaits us should we continue down the current path to debt, doubt, and decline. Such a crisis would threaten the economic security, health security, and retirement security of every American. If the president wishes to begin a genuine dialogue with the American people in tomorrow’s State of the Union address, then he must hold his own party accountable for its dogged refusal to produce a plan to prevent this crisis and lift this cloud of uncertainty from the economy. The president must also deliver what he has so far refused: serious reforms to change our debt course and prevent fiscal disaster.

Expect to see more of this on the messaging side as Republicans find their footing and begin going after Democrats.

  1. Create a visual that explains to the viewer what the Obama Administration and the Democratic Congressional leaders have done and haven’t done as it relates to the budgeting crisis that America and Americans now must face. This video will show what should have been done and what should not have been done by Obama and
the leaders of the Democratic Party. A spade should be called a spade! No lies or misrepresentation should be depicted in order to mollivy anybody involved in creating the problem that exists because of the action or inaction of the leaders of our National Government.

  2. This is a really good video, but it should end with an animated graphic showing the 1000 days on the horizontal and the national debt in the vertical using either a bar chart or a line graph progressing from left to right to show the increasing debt. I think that would help get the major point of the video across. It is unbelievable that our govt has added 4+ trillion to the debt in the last 1000 days.
